About.

Aloha!  I'm so happy you're here!

This site is about sharing that Gift of Aloha with others in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada who love the island lifestyle and culture too.

Here, you'll find information on how to add a touch of the Islands in your daily life... even in the cold Canadian winters!
I will also be announcing any workshops, classes, and events happening in the Winnipeg area.

So stay tuned!

About Nenette

Hi!  I'm Nenette -- a mum, wife, lifestyle entrepreneur, wellness & success coach, and hula and tahitian dancer.  I live in Winnipeg, Canada.

At the age of 6, I joined the Kealoha Polynesian Dancers of Winnipeg, and under the instruction of Mabelle Perez de Tagle, I learned hula 'auana (modern hula) and tahitian ote'a.  I have also had the pleasure of performing at various cultural and family-oriented events throughout the city, including the Red River Exhibition Parade in 1977 where our hula group participated with our own float.

In 1997, I briefly lived in Hilo, Hawai'i, where I was fully immersed in the Hawaiian culture and learned many things I enjoy sharing with my students as well as those simply interested in all things Hawai'ian.

After returning to Winnipeg, I opened Makana Aloha Hula School and Performance Group to share my knowledge and love of the dance.  My dancers and I also had the pleasure of introducing the hula to a new generation through workshops and family events.

In 2005, Makana Aloha was featured in an article in Flare Magazine entitled "Shall We Dance?" about dance as fitness.

By 2006, despite our growing popularity and student waiting list, I made the difficult decision to close down Makana Aloha Hula to turn my focus to a budding writing career so I could be home with my young children.

Today, I still enjoy dancing the hula and teaching the occasional hula workshop.

You can find me on my personal blog at Sarong With Boots.

And of course, you can drop me a note via email!

Cheers and Mahalo...
